Thailand 2011/2012

day 3 / 4

Day 3 - Friday Night on Samui
Made it into the water to do my foot exercises. Had to walk out about 1/4 mile to get into water up to my neck. The water shoes I bought for $10 were well worth it. Slightly overcast, water was about 80degrees, pretty much silent out there. Back to the house, clean up, snack on fresh dragon  fruit and green mango. Get ready for a Friday night on Samui. First stop was Lamai. Basically Bourbon Street and Amsterdam Red Light District rolled into one. Basic chaos. But was told a slow night due to the floods in Bangkok. Then off to a “Resort” called Nikki Beach for an ex-pat dance party. Where the big fish  in a little pond play. Brits, Russians, etc with some  money back home, and pretend with alot of Thai Bahts here. Hoola hoop contest, limbo contest, kaajaagoogoo on the sound system.........you get the bad tacky picture. After the bad outfits, bad limboing, bad everything off to the north part of the island, Cha Weng. Now this part of town makes Lamai look like a grade school. Complete insanity, super loud. Hookers galore, old men galore, and more galore. Pretty much a complete sensory overload. Cheap entertainment. 4:30 am, back at the  house, missing house keys, returned house keys, shower and sleep.

Day 4
Day 4 consists of napping, shower, napping, seafood noodle soup, and some more napping.

day 2

Day 2 - Samui Thailand

Today woke up early after the 16 hour “Nap”. Good cup of Nescafe coffee to get things started. A circle tour around Samui to get situated. But first, the street market for some grub. So much to pick from, (and i have plenty of time), Quick fried hard boiled eggs, fish cakes, and fried bananas with coconut. Seeing the small towns along the ring road, getting aquainted with the landscape. Visit the first Big Buddha. The stairs to the top of the monument are a bit trying without the shoes. Already pretty dang hot by 10 am. You have to leave them at the bottom. Then breakfast on the pier, start collecting street posters for collaging. There will be a MuiThai series of collage paints that come out of this. After the pier, off to the beach for some beers and rambutan. Working our way around the island back towards home base, stop at the local bar. Beers , snacks, and the best wide rice noodles with pork and fresh ground chili powder i have ever had. Kiki the monkey resides at the bar. Total sweetheart. She was rescued a few years ago, and has been taken in by Oiy and John. She in turn has recently taken in a small stray kitten as her own. In bed by 9pm, sleep well, and wake early. I can definitely get used to this.

Day 1

Thailand 101

Off to the races in the heat and humidity. blue water, sunshine, and street food. Four flights in one+ days. Denver to Seattle to Tokyo to Bangkok to Samui. Four hours of sleep on the Tokyo to Bangkok run. Arrive on Samui at 7am. New day, time to go. In the water by 9:30 am . Couple of beers to energize and then to the food market. Green papaya salad, smoked  fish, chicken, and prickly fruit. 2 bucks, can’t beat that with a WalMart Black Friday Sale. Shower off the jet grime and salt water and it’s nap time. Well, nap time became a 16 hour snooze fest. Heavy dreaming. Day one complete.
